Where the lakes get wide.

Seven stays in Central Finland, six of them on one shore.

Central Finland is where the lake district is at its widest. Lake Keitele alone covers 494 square kilometres, which makes it the ninth largest lake in the country, and it is long enough to be counted as three separate basins rather than one.

Six of the stays here share a single estate on Vesankajärvi, at Vesanka just outside Jyväskylä. That is unusual and it is useful: you can take one villa for two people, or take several and put fourteen of you on the same water without anyone sharing a kitchen. The seventh is the family cabin on Keitele where Norrwild started. It sits in this collection because it belongs here, not because you can book it.

Jyväskylä has an airport and a railway station, which is what makes this part of the country reachable on a Friday evening rather than a fortnight's planning.

Every stay on this page is booked directly with its owner. We take no commission and hold no calendar, so what the owner charges is what you pay.
